Dr. Rick Smart was raised in Readfield, ME. He graduated from Kents Hill School and the University of Maine in Orono with a B.S. in Zoology. He attended New England College of Optometry in Boston, graduating in March 1983 with a Doctorate of Optometry. Dr. Smart spent the next 3 1/2 years as Officer-in-Charge of the Optometry Clinic at Ft. Richardson Army Base in Anchorage, Alaska. After leaving military service, Dr. Smart established a private practice in Wasilla, Alaska. In March,1990, he moved back home to Maine and started a new practice. Dr. Smart enjoys providing full-service family eyecare with a special interest in contact lenses and laser vision correction.
Dr. Sobeck was born and raised in Rogers City, MI. She graduated from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI, with a Bachelors of Vision Science. She then received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Michigan College of Optometry. Her optometric clinic experiences were completed at Lakeshore Professional Eyecare, Duane Waters Hospital at Jackson State Prison, and the Grand Rapids VA Outpatient Clinic. In 2008, Dr. Sobeck relocated to Maine where she completed residency training at the Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta. She also joined Smart EyeCare Center at that time and now provides primary eye care to patients in the Augusta location.
Dr. Sarah Gladstone was raised in the greater Bangor area. She received her diploma from Hampden Academy and graduated cum laude from the University of Maine at Orono with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from The New England College of Optometry. Her optometric clinical training was completed at New England Eye Institute, South Boston Community Health Center, Manchester VA Hospital, Vision Care of Maine, and the Lahey Clinic. Dr. Gladstone is providing primary eye care for Smart EyeCare patients at the Bangor location.
Dr. Kaplan was born and raised in Rumford, Maine. She graduated in 1992 from the University of Maine at Orono Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Zoology. She worked in an optometry office for a time before going on to school. She received her Doctorate of Optometry in 1998 from the New England College of Optometry. Her optometric clinical rotations were completed at the Manchester VA Hospital, White River Junction VA, Brighton Marine Hospital, the New England Eye Institute, and the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Dr. Kaplan has practiced optometry in Winthrop, Skowhegan, Gray and Rumford before joining SmartEyeCare Center.
Dr. James Brewer grew up in Greene, Maine and attended Leavitt Area High School. He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 2007 with a Bachelors degree in psychology. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in 2012. His clinical training was completed at the New England Eye Institute, Boston Medical Center, East Boston Community Health Center, Bedford VA Hospital, and Togus VA Hospital. Dr. Brewer is currently providing primary eye care for patients in the Augusta and Farmingdale offices
Dr Lucie Neron was born and raised in Chibougamau, Quebec, Canada. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Montreal School of Optometry. Her optometric clinical training was completed at the Clinique Universitaire de la Vision and Fier Eye Care and Surgery Center. Dr Neron has practiced optometry in the province of Quebec before joining Smart EyeCare. Dr Neron is providing primary eye care for Smart EyeCare patients at the Bangor location.
